Get involved in Giving Week 2021

This Giving Week, 21 – 25 June 2021, BD Giving and partners will show the community that together we can do so much. Expect free training, exciting talks, opportunities to participate, and innovative funding news!

The theme of the borough’s second ever Giving Week is Together We Can Do So Much.

The week of 21 – 25 June is a chance to build relationships, share ideas and develop skills that will keep us on track to create the borough we envisage. The last year has shown us how much talent and energy there is within the borough. The spirit that has enabled us to respond to the public health crisis, sometimes through small acts of kindness, sometimes through innovative solutions and new collaborations, shows that together we really can do so much.

People living and working in Barking and Dagenham now have such a range of options to get involved in shaping their neighbourhood and community. From grassroots community action to corporate volunteering, the growing space of participatory initiatives, thematic networks, and infrastructure partnerships, there is something for everyone.

At the same time, we know that many local people and organisations are feeling tired and over-stretched, so in response to feedback from the community Giving Week 2021 will:

  1. showcase local initiatives so people know about all of the opportunitieswithin the borough;
  2. help local people and organisations to make connections with each other;
  3. build capacity so more people feel confident about participating in Barking and Dagenham.

What’s happening in Giving Week 2021?

Taking inspiration from the words of Helen Keller – the American author, political activist, disability rights advocate, and the first deafblind person to earn a BA degree – the theme of Giving Week is “Together We Can Do So Much”.

We know that by working together, local people and organisations can address the pressing issues the borough faces. During Giving Week we are combining forces with local organisations to offer training and opportunities that will build skills and knowledge about how to participate in the borough.

Giving Week launches on Monday 21 June, with a creative youth-led expression of the theme and there will be events throughout the week. We’ll close the week on Friday 25 June with exciting funding news. There are lots of ways you can get involved in Giving Week:

  1. Submit your own events via this form.
  2. Tell your friends and contacts by sharing this page and the programme of events.
  3. Attend an event by signing up via the Giving Week programme.
