About the GROW Fund

Thanks to the many organisations and businesses who applied. We have been inspired by the range of brilliant ideas and impactful work taking place in the borough. We will continue to develop the GROW Fund so that it can support as many as possible.

The GROW Fund is our flagship fund
FundA way for people to combine their money and invest together.
. In our pilot year, we are targeting entrepreneurs and business owners within Barking and Dagenham to provide a £25,000 grant
GrantA gift of money with no expectation of paying it back. Sometimes, there are certain ‘conditions’ or requirements attached to the money. In other cases, there are not.
, a seven-month business accelerator and an opportunity for further investment after the business development programme.
Launched on the 30th of January, the GROW Fund reached 2,500 businesses in the borough. We received one hundred applications from organisations across sectors. Applications were sifted by BD Giving staff, using criteria outlined by our Community Steering Group
Community Steering Group (CSG) A group of local people who give their time and ideas to make Barking & Dagenham Giving’s community-led investment fund a success, now and for future generations.
(CSG). The CSG are a group of residents who have been working together over the last 18 months to shape the GROW Fund. They made the final decisions in line with their priorities for the borough as outlined in our Investment Policy
Investment Policy A strategic document that outlines how an organisation will manage their investment assets (the “Portfolio”), with often a set of financial (and sometimes impact) objectives and boundaries.
. This policy was co-designed by the CSG, staff and trustees, as well as our partners the Curiosity Society

We would like to thank everyone who has been part of this process. It is our intention that the GROW Fund will adapt to the needs of the borough. The current CSG will be stepping down over the summer so we would encourage any resident with an interest in shared decision-making to join us on the next part of the journey.

Our newsletter is the best way to stay informed about the development of the GROW Fund, as well as any future opportunities for funding or getting involved in decision-making.
