Local changemakers seek new ideas

Be a Disruptive Explorer

Over the last three years, a small group of dedicated local organisations have been meeting regularly to discuss how to change the who and how of  decision-making in Barking and Dagenham. Now you can join them!

Calling ourselves the Disruptive Explorers, we want to make sure everyone has a say in decisions that affect them and have the chance to decide what happens in their area. We believe that by working together, people can make their community better and stop bad things from happening to each other.

I was invited into the Disruptive Explorers and that made me feel like my input is valued. People listen when I speak and I am always learning by hearing other people speak. I would like to hear more voices around our table, especially people whose life experiences are not given enough space.

We take a collaborative approach. The ideas we choose to resource, we also build together. An individual Disruptive Explorer might have a particular passion, interest or skill set but they need to bring other people in on their idea if they want to make it happen. We think this approach helps the idea become stronger by keeping it rooted in our shared vision. It also means that more people get a chance to develop new skills and experiences by helping support ideas that are new to them.
