Why Barking and Dagenham? Barking & Dagenham is a borough with potential. It has a growing economy and population but many people in our community face severe and long-term disadvantages.
Barking & Dagenham has higher rates of unemployment than other parts of East London and lower average wages for full-time workers but the borough has attracted over £1 billion worth of investment in recent years, around 2,000 affordable homes will be built by 2022 and nearly 90% of schools rated good or outstanding by OFSTED.
That’s why the Council calls Barking & Dagenham ‘London’s Growth Opportunity’ and we want to ensure that everybody in the borough has an equal chance to improve their quality of life and strengthen our borough.
