Why does working in Barking and Dagenham interest you?

Working in Barking and Dagenham is especially meaningful to me because it’s where I’ve spent most of my life. I’ve lived here for over 23 years and went to school in the borough, so I have a deep personal connection to the area and a strong understanding of the community. I’ve seen how much the borough has grown and changed, and I’m passionate about being part of that continued progress. Working with an organisation like BD Giving, which is dedicated to creating positive local change, is an incredible opportunity and a fulfilling way to give back to the community that has shaped so much of who I am.

What are your ambitions for the borough?

Having lived in Barking and Dagenham for over many years, I’ve seen both the strengths and the struggles that exist in the borough. My ambition is to help create a more inclusive and thriving community one where local people feel heard, valued, and have real opportunities to grow and succeed.
I’d love to see more young people empowered to shape their futures through better access to education, employment, and community led initiatives. I’m also passionate about making sure the voices of underrepresented groups are part of decision making processes, especially when it comes to shaping local services and funding.

What role does the community have in realising that ambition?

The community plays a central role in realising that ambition. Real, lasting change happens when local people are not just consulted but are actively involved in shaping the decisions that affect their lives. The residents of Barking and Dagenham know their needs, strengths, and challenges better than anyone, so their input is essential in building solutions that actually work.
