Current Opportunities

What could we do together?
We want everyone to feel included and that they can get involved in making decisions about Barking & Dagenham.

We’re a small team with lots of ideas and energy. We want to hear from anyone else who is invested in the future of the borough. If the opportunities below don’t suit you right now, check back in future or sign up to one of our emails to get alerts about new opportunities.

Current live opportunities include:

Give it a Go Fund

Small grants for local people to test out new ideas in the borough

Got an idea that could benefit people in Barking and Dagenham? Check out the Give it a Go Fund! Eight people were recruited to help design the fund.
FundA way for people to combine their money and invest together.
The group, who all live and work in the borough, met three times to discuss and agree on everything from the name of the fund to the amount to be distributed.

They decided the Give it a Go Fund should provide ten applicants grants
GrantA gift of money with no expectation of paying it back. Sometimes, there are certain ‘conditions’ or requirements attached to the money. In other cases, there are not.
of £2,000 for something that fills a gap in the borough. This could be anything from cooking nourishing meals to offering activities for neurodiverse children. We welcome your bold ideas for making positive contributions to the borough.

Community Assets

Community Assets

Over the last few months, we’ve had conversations with people living and working in the borough and collected data around the use of existing and the need for new local community space.

Want to find out about what we’ve learnt and share your view? Join us for nibbles and conversations on Wednesday 16 October from 18:30-20:00 at Three Sixty Workspaces in Barking.

Also keep an eye here for an opportunity to come together as a group and discuss and make decisions about community space in the borough!

Disruptive Explorers

Disruptive Explorers

The Disruptive Explorers (DE) are a group of local organisations and community groups that want to find new ways to disrupt harmful systems in the borough.

This work is being funded by the Lankelly Chase Foundation, as part of their Place Action Inquiry, and the document also outlines the ways in which we intend to use this funding to promote local change.

GROW Fund

The UK’s first community-led investment fund

For too long the people who are most affected by funding decisions have been excluded from the decision-making process. In Barking and Dagenham, we’re changing that! Our funding and investment approach looks at the social impact
Social ImpactThe positive or negative effect that an individual, organisation or project has on the well-being and welfare of a community or society as a whole.
of the money we hold, not just the financial return
Return The amount of money you expect to get back from an investment, usually as a percentage gained over a set period of time.
. The GROW Fund was developed by residents of the borough (a Community Steering Group) with money transferred by the Council to BD Giving.
